The funding will be available via the agency’s Participant Funding Program for eligible individuals and groups to assist their participation in the upcoming environmental assessment,
It also includes reviewing and providing comments on the review panel terms of reference and the environmental impact assessment, and participating in the public hearing.
The agency will consider the funding applications received by 14 November 2014.
Westmoreland Coal is proposing to expand its Coal Valley Mine in the Coal Branch area of Alberta.
Located near the community of Robb, the project would be about 37km in length and would include portions of the Pembina River, Embarras River and the Erith River.
In July 2012, the Minister of the Environment designated the project and the screening-type environmental assessment to continue under the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is responsible for managing the federal environmental assessment process for major resource projects.
