The company has been in consultation with the Peterborough City Council and agreed that work will be stopped in the Oundle Road area between December 21, and January 2, 2007.
The work in this area is part of a GBP3 million project to reinforce the electricity network for years to come.
Barry Hatton, director of the capital program, said: Wherever possible we have tried to accommodate the needs of the city whilst carrying out this essential work on the electricity network in Peterborough. We recognize that the Christmas period is a particularly busy time for the city, so have temporarily suspended our works to ease congestion in the area.
