This final regulatory approval includes the associated transmission line connecting the power project to Arizona Public Service’s transmission grid.
The solar project, located on privately owned land west of the town of Gila Bend, will utilize an advanced molten salt, power tower technology developed by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, a unit of United Technologies Corporation.
The facility is expected to generate about 450,000MWh of electricity annually.
SolarReserve vice president of development Tom Georgis said that the commission’s approval illustrates a commitment to bringing viable, utility scale solar thermal projects to Arizona which will contribute to the state meeting its renewable energy goals and peak energy demand.
