The company said that Trinidad and Tobago is vulnerable to oil spills and contamination of its land, rivers and territorial waters as it is a producer of oil and gas, which accounts for approximately 40% of its GDP, and 80% of exports.
Although the country has not had any major environmental incidents with respect to their deepwater drilling activities, in July 2010, the MEEA launched the Hydrocarbon and Chemical Spill Contingency Plan to take proactive steps to secure its marine environment in the context of deepwater drilling.
Mariner’s Choice president & CEO Amie Hingston said that having MUNOX on the MEEA approved list for use in Trinidad and Tobago gives the company the opportunity to supply the product for remediation and reclamation of contaminated properties.
"The route to market would be through distributors, contractors and approved vendors to the oil refineries," Hingston said.
