Construction of these plants – a 2MW facility in Miyagi Prefecture and a 1.5MW plant in Aomori Prefecture – will start this month and is planned to be completed in January next year.
The 2MW Sendai solar plant in Shichigahama, Miyagi Prefecture, is expected to produce about 2,100MWh of electricity, off-setting about 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
The 1.5MW Hachinohe solar facility in Aomori Prefecture (of which Kyocera is supplying 1MW) will generate about 1,600MWh, off-setting about 800 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
According to Kyocera, power companies across Japan have planned to build roughly 30 large-scale solar plants with a total capacity of 140MW by 2020.
