Under the INR4.22bn ($69m) contract, BHEL will be responsible for setting up hydro generating sets and associated electro-mechanical works for the 444MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP.
The Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP, located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is a run of the river scheme on the river Alaknanda.
Featuring four hydro generating sets of 111MW capacity each, with vertical Francis turbines and matching hydro generators, the project is expected to boost electricity supply to India’s national grid through the addition of renewable, low-carbon energy.
The project will also enhance the institutional capacity of the borrower with respect to the preparation and implementation of economically, environmentally and socially sustainable hydropower projects.
The contract scope also includes engineering, procurement and construction of all hydro generating sets and associated electro mechanical works.
Work under the contract is scheduled to be completed in a tight schedule of 48 months.
BHEL’s Bhopal unit will supply the hydro generating sets while the transformers and control & monitoring system will be delivered by the company’s Jhansi unit and electronics division, Bangalore, respectively.
