Once completed, the wind farm with an installed capacity of about 100MW is expected to provide clean power to approximately 30,000 Canadian households. Siemens will begin installation of the wind turbines in June 2011.
In November 2009, Siemens was also contracted to supply 43 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines for RES Canada’s Talbot wind energy project near Chatham, Ontario. The scope for both wind energy plants includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines, and a five-year service, maintenance and warranty agreement.
Jan Kjaersgaard, vice president and general manager of Americas wind business at Siemens Energy, said: “Five wind turbine orders totaling nearly 600MW received in Canada over the last six months clearly demonstrate the success we’ve experienced. Including the two Canadian wind farms commissioned in 2008, Siemens wind turbines have the potential to provide clean power to approximately 240,000 Canadian households.”
