This is the first appraisal well targeting the Vesuvio accumulation, discovered through well OGX-1. This appraisal well also targeted sandstone reservoirs, also from the Eocene age, but not reached by the previous well. OGX holds a 100% working interest in this block.

Paulo Mendonca, general executive officer of OGX, said: “This well, which helped us better understand the accumulation system of the Eocene reservoirs of the southern part of the Campos Basin, confirms the great potential of this basin throughout geological ages, and opens significant new possibilities for these reservoirs.”

A net pay of about 60mt was encountered in the sandstone reservoirs in the Eocene section. Through the drilling of this well, located approximately 2.1km away from OGX-1, the company confirmed previously identified sands from well OGX-1, as well as from new sand bodies, indicating the existence of additional accumulations.

The oil-water contact was also identified at deeper levels, being a relevant indicator in the delineation process of the Vesuvio complex. The well is currently being prepared for the execution of a Drillstem Test.

The OGX-9DB well, located in the BM-C-41 block, is situated 87km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of approximately 140mt. The rig Ocean Ambassador, provided by Diamond Offshore, initiated drilling activities on February 16, 2010.
