The INR21000m ($341m) solar project is considered to be the world’s largest CSP project based on compact linear fresnel reflector (CLFR) technology.

The project was financed through debt from multilateral agencies which include, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Export Import Bank of USA, Financerings Maatschappu Voor Ontwikkelingslanden NV (FMO), Netherlands and Axis Bank.

Reliance Power’s wholly owned subsidiary Rajasthan Sun Technique Energy was selected in December 2010 for NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam, a subsidiary of NTPC, for the construction of the power plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission.

Areva Solar, the US subsidiary of the France-based Areva, has provided the project’s CFLR technology, which is simple in design and has minimal environmental spill.

With the CPS project, Reliance Power has now increased its generation capacity to 5,285MW, which includes 5,100MW of thermal capacity and 185MW of renewable energy based capacity.

The project has 25% reserve margin to address obligations of 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
