The latest halt in production is for the third time in four months due to delay in outstanding payments.

Coal from the mine is supplied to Bluewaters power station, which caters to the South West grid and retailer Synergy.

Bluewaters CEO Tom Watters was quoted by ABC News as saying that there are no short-term risks to power supply in Western Australia facilitated by stockpiles held.

Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union spokesman Gary Wood said: "They [Carna Civil Mining] expected to get some money today, to pay wages which are outstanding, and also order some fuel so they can get the trucks mobile again.

"Basically this time of the month for the last three months there have been delays in payment, which has impacted on the mine’s ability to operate in an efficient manner.

"There are obviously cash flow issues with Lanco Infratech."

Last month, Lanco Infratech said it was in talks with potential investors to sell a part of its Griffin coal mine, reported Reuters.
