REpower said that it will subsequently be in charge of service and maintenance for the turbines over the first 12 years of operation. The wind turbines are set to be delivered in summer 2011.
With 44 turbines and a total generating capacity of 148.28MW, Geycek is said to be REpower’s biggest wind farm in Europe to date. The contract is subject to conditions precedent.
Per Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems, said: “Turkey is a wind market with huge potential – experts are speaking of volumes of up to 20,000MW – which has however barely been tapped so far. Turbines with a generating capacity of almost 1,000MW are already in operation there.
“In addition, the Turkish government has announced that it is going to revise the procedures for granting licenses and the remuneration system for renewable energies in 2010. We have outstanding products in the 3.XM series and are happy that customer confidence in the latest generation of turbines is being confirmed by larger and larger orders and projects.”
