The condition is expected to get worse as the demand will rise in peak summer season in May 2009. The demand has augmented manifold with the rise in air-coolers and ACs sales.
As opposed to the usual power demand of 1,800 MW, the BSEB obtained 786 MW of power from the central sector out of which Patna was allotted 350 MW of power. BSEB spokesman Hare Ram Pandey stated that at peak hour, Patna’s demand has augmented up to 455 MW of power. Bihar’s Barauni thermal power plant on April 23, 2009 produced 74 MW of power.
On account of collapse of Jakkanpur grid, the power supply has been interrupted in certain localities. Pandey told The Times Of India that it is expected to be resolved late in the night.
Several areas, including parts of Rajendra Nagar, Patna City, Gardanibagh, Raja Bazaar, Boring Road, Jakkanpur, Pataliputra Colony and Anisabad, experienced extended power cuts in the morning and evening.
