The switch has been flicked on the A$9.8 million upgrade which included the installation of a second transformer at Caloundra’s Minchinton Street substation almost doubling its capacity.
Kevin Ball, works group manager of Energex, said that a substantial forecast increase in local power usage was the driving force behind the upgrades.
Mr Ball said: These upgrades will allow for significant future growth in the Caloundra area which is expected to increase its power usage by 22% over the next two years. Factors such as rapid commercial expansion, affordable home air-conditioning and the fact that households and businesses are using far more electricity than they were 10 years ago were the drivers behind these new upgrades.
