The company will build the Shuweihat S3 plant, located about 260 kms west of Abu Dhabi, together with its Korean partner Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co.
Siemens received the order from a consortium comprising the Japanese Sumitomo Corp, the Korea Electric Power Corp and the local utility Abu Dhabi Electricity & Water Authority.
The new plant, which will have an installed capacity of 1,600MW, is expected to start commercial operation in 2014.
Siemens will supply the main components comprising four SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two SST5-4000 I-L steam turbines, six generators (SGen5-1000A and SGen5-2000H), an SPPA-T3000 electrical and I&C system for the power plant.
Daewoo will be responsible for the ancillary and auxiliary systems (balance of plant) and the civil works.
Siemens will also supply on a turnkey basis a gas-insulated 400kV 8DQ1 switchgear unit, including protection and I&C equipment, for connection of the power plant to the grid.
