The move follows Alstom’s $55m initial investment in BrightSource in May 2010 and a partnership agreement signed in August 2010 to provide fully integrated solar thermal power plants.
This latest investment makes Alstom BrightSource’s second largest shareholder.
The companies are partnering in countries, such as the Mediterranean ring and Africa, where solar conditions best suit BrightSource’s tower technology and where Alstom has a track record in engineering and construction of power plants.
Alstom Power president Philippe Joubert said with this new investment, the company continues to build its partnership with BrightSource to provide highly efficient solar thermal power plants that will bring customers cost-efficient and reliable carbon-free power.
BrightSource recently started construction of its Ivanpah solar electric generating system in San Bernardino County in the US state of California.
