Griffin is a subsidiary of Indian engineering, procurement and construction firm Lanco Infratech and expects to employ Qube to transport about 1.25 million tons of coal generated from Griffin Coal mine to Bunbury port in Western Australia.

A Lanco senior official told Press Trust of India that Griffin Coal is currently generating 3.75 million tons of coal and an agreement with Qube will expand total production to about 5 million tons in 2013.

Griffin Coal had recently agreed to an A150m ($157.42m) long-term coal supply agreement with Bluewater Power, for 1.8 million tons of coal over a 25-year term to Bluewaters Power Station in Western Australia.

A Japanese consortium including Sumitomo and Kansai Electric Power will purchase the power from the power station for a value of $1.2bn.
