Following the renovation, 60% of the technology center has been renewed and the improvements will result in a 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and a significant reduction in chlorofluorocarbons from its operations.
Shell’s Houston center spread over one million square feet of laboratory and office space, and houses more than 2,000 scientists and engineers.
The center is also equipped with 3D virtual reality systems through which the team at the center collaborates and share ideas, and information with colleagues across the world.
It is also the global base for numerous technological areas across the upstream and downstream sector.
Royal Dutch Shell Innovation, Research & Development chief technology officer and executive VP Gerald Schotman said the real innovation is a result of collaboration between co-workers and creating new solutions.
"Advanced technology solutions continue to generate new energy sources, increase efficiency, and address and responsibly manage environmental impacts," Schotman added.
Shell works closely with partners in and outside of its industry to develop new ideas, create new solutions, share knowledge and speed up technology development and deployment.
