During the same period of time in 2008, there was a power shortage of 31 MW.
TNEB stated that they have been able to decrease the power shortfall that was roughly 1,000 MW a few months ago.
TNEB official said “We expected the demand to go up during the summer due to the heavy use of air conditioners and other cooling equipment. We are now banking on the wind energy which is supposed to pick up in May and go on till October.”
TNEB stated that during peak hours, several commercial complexes have limited their power consumption.
TNEB official added “There have been very few applications for additional load demand from industries or commercial establishments. This can help balance the power distribution in the state.”
Residents in Tamil Nadu asserted that they have been witnessing frequent short-time power cuts in the afternoon and night.
TNEB has stated that they will not resort to any load shedding.
TNEB said “We have not received any instructions to imposed scheduled power cuts. Since the use of air conditioners picks up during this period, the problem of overloading occurs and some snags could develop in transformers. This could be the reason for the outages.”
