Under the contracts totaling about €16m, the company will deliver all electrical materials and equipment, in addition to providing supervisory services for the 500/220 kV air-insulated substations currently under development.

Upon completion, the My Tho substation will supply electricity for the Mekong Delta region whereas Vinh Tan substation will connect the Vinh Tan Thermal Power Complex to the national power grid, with a 5,600MW planned capacity.

These two substations will be the first in Vietnam to use a rated short circuit current of 63kA – 3s for primary equipment.

Alstom Vietnam country president Michel Burtin said, "These contracts highlight Alstom’s leading position in the high voltage switchgear market as well as its long term commitment to support Vietnam’s power development plan."
