The contract was signed in late December 2012. Delivery for the contract includes a package of strategic spares for use across GECOL’s installed base.
Alstom originally supplied the 11 GT13 turbines. Under the deal, the firm will deliver parts for major inspections on six turbines in 2013, while parts for the remaining turbines will be supplied in 2014.
ALGEC GT Services, a joint venture company established by GECOL and Alstom, will partially carry out the service part of the inspection works.
The JV firm employs over 100 local employees to service and maintain gas turbines and combined cycle power plants in Libya.
Alstom Thermal Services senior VP Hans-Peter Meer stated: "Our services ensure that gas plants across the globe continue to operate with high efficiency and reliability."
"They will be instrumental in bringing much needed generation capacity back to the Libyan grid," Meer added.
French conglomerate has supplied 24 gas turbines to Libya, which represents over 50% of GECOL’s operational capacity.
