Under the $75m contract, Rolls-Royces will supply another six RB211-driven pipeline compressor units to PetroChina to power the flow of natural gas through the Line 3 of WEPP.
Upon completion in 2015, the 7,000km-long WEPP Line 3 will link China’s western Xinjiang to Fuijan province in the south-east and deliver up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Rolls-Royce Energy president Andrew Heath said the company has been providing China with technology and services to support its energy infrastructure.
"We are delighted to extend our role in the West-East Pipeline Project which uses cleaner, greener energy to boost China’s economic growth and ensure greater security of electricity supply to China’s fast-developing cities," Heath added.
Rolls-Royce will manufacture and package the equipments at its facilities in Montreal, Canada and Ohio, US.
The company has been supplying equipments for the WEPP since 2004 and so far has provided 56 units of RB211 including the latest contract, for installation on China and Central Asia’s vast natural gas pipeline network.
