Wintershall Norge has been awarded two new licenses in the European Arctic Sea and three new licenses in the Norwegian North Sea. With a share of 40%, Wintershall will be the operator in license areas PL 472 and PL 474 in the Norwegian Sea off the coast of central Norway.

Wintershall was also awarded a 40% share in PL 465, 30% in PL 462 S and 15% in PL 461 in the Norwegian North Sea off the coast of Bergen, Norway.

The Norwegian Energy Ministry awarded Wintershall the qualification to work as an operator and licensee in Norway in 2004. In 2007, with a majority shareholding in license PL 443, Wintershall commenced its operator activities in Norway.

With operatorships in three license areas and participation in a total of 12 licenses, Wintershall noted that it has positioned itself as an active company in the exploration and production industry in Norway.

Eckhard Oehms, head of Wintershall Norge, said: This successful allocation, which complied fully with our application, will help us make considerable progress in the implementation of our strategy in Norway.
