The move has been taken due to the increased demand for wood pellets and processed biomass fuel.
The plant expansion will increase the plant’s production capacity by 50,000 metric tons annually, to 350,000 metric tons total.
The Enviva Pellets Ahoskie plant which is currently under construction is expected to become operational by the end of this year.
The premium quality wood pellets produced for Enviva’s European client base will depart from the VA-based port in Chesapeake, which Enviva acquired this year.
Enviva is currently developing sites for two additional wood pellet manufacturing plants in the mid-Atlantic region which will be operation within two years.
