The QW4 platform topside was installed on February 9, 2008, in a multi-hour operation which involved the use of a special heavy lift crane, Petroleum Construction Company’s (NPCC) HLS 2000.

Following installation of the topsides the offshore mechanical completion work campaign will begin, leading to the handover of the facilities to Qatargas-2 operations for final start-up.

The offshore facilities will supply gas for the two 7.8 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas processing trains currently under construction onshore in Ras Laffan City.

The two platform topsides installed were built at NPCC’s fabrication yard in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The shareholders in Qatargas-2 are Qatar Petroleum, Exxon Mobil and Total.

Faisal Al Suwaidi, chairman and CEO of Qatargas, said: Qatargas-2 is a project made up of many large projects within a project. This milestone takes the project one step closer to completion. I would like to thank all the parties involved, our staff, and contractors NPCC and Technip, for their dedication to seeing this job completed safely.
