In 2005, Gasunie had already acquired shares in APX. Including Gasunie, APX has two important infrastructure players on the gas market as shareholders. In recent years APX has expanded its activities, in anticipation of the formation of a northwestern European energy market.

This transaction reportedly fits within the strategic objectives of APX and coincides with other core tasks which are mainly focused on providing an efficient, transparent and fluid energy market in northwestern Europe.

In 2005, the Fluxys Group launched services for screen trading at the Zeebrugge Hub together with APX. For that purpose, the Fluxys Group acquired a 42% participating interest in APX Gas Zeebrugge, a subsidiary of APX that provides the required electronic trading platform and clearing services.

The new agreement exchanges Fluxys Group’s participating interest in APX Gas Zeebrugge for a direct interest in the APX Group. A commitment was also made to give equal treatment to the development of the trading platforms for the Zeebrugge Hub in Belgium and the TTF exchange in the Netherlands.
