Earlier Hofheinz served on the board of both public and private oil and gas companies. He was elected as board of director of Lucas Energy by the shareholders in November 2008.

Cerna will remain on the board as the lead advisory director and holds majority number of share in the company. William Sawyer stated: “Jim Cerna was the most instrumental of all people in the founding, development, and growth of Lucas Energy. He is, in fact, the best partner I have ever had in the more than thirty-five years I have been in the oil business.”
