The bank will also provide financial assistance for conversion of existing 800MW Jamshoro Power Plant, which burns imported coal.
The latest announcement was made by ADB’s Central West Asia Department director general Klaus Gerhaeusser during a meeting with Power Minister Ahmed Mukhtar.
Gerhaeusser said the bank understands the significance of the Diamer Basha Dam (DBD) project for Pakistan, and added that its construction would help in catering the energy needs in the country.
Further talks on the DBD project financing would be held with Pakistani authorities in the near future, Gerhaeusser told during the meeting.
Commenting on the DBD project, Mukhtar said it will help the country in generating cheaper electricity and asked ADB to be a lead financer for the project to complete it without delay.
The DBD project is expected to generate 4500MW of cheaper, clean energy for the country.
