The runner’s delivery is part of a contract secured by Alstom in 2008 to supply four 812MW Francis turbine and generator units for the hydroelectric dam.
Final welding and machining of the runner was carried out at the Three Gorges Site workshop of Tianjin Alstom Hydro Co in the Hubei Province of China.
Alstom claims that the runner is one of the largest in the world, weighing in at 406 tonnes with a diameter of 10.5m and a height of 4.7m.
The Xiangjiaba hydroelectric project will be operated by China Three Gorges Project Corp.
