The company has spudded exploration well on the Børselv prospect in PL609 on the Loppa High in the southern Barents Sea.
The 7220/6-3 well is situated on-trend north of the Alta and Neiden oil discoveries, which is around 18km northwest of the Neiden discovery well.
Lundin is drilling the well to test the reservoir properties and hydrocarbon potential of Permian-Carboniferous carbonate reservoirs.
The Børselv prospect is expected to include gross unrisked prospective resources of 244 MMboe.
Leiv Eiriksson, which is the semi-submersible drilling rig, will drill the well in around 35 days.
According to the company, the panned total depth for the well is around 1,300m.
With a 40% working interest, Lundin Norway is the operator of PL609. The other partners include DEA Norge and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge with 30% working interest each.
The company will drill the well from the Leiv Eiriksson drilling facility, and the drilling programme for well is linked to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 609.
The area in this licence includes blocks 7220/6, 7220/9, 7220/11, 7220/12 and 7221/4.
In February this year, Aker BP announced that its partners in PL 533, Lundin Norway and DEA Norge have discovered an oil and gas reserve in the Filicudi prospect in the main well 7219/12-1 along the southern Barents Sea.
The PL 533 well is operated by Lundin Norway which has a 35% stake, same as Aker BP. The other partner in the exploration project is DEA Norge which has a 30% stake.
