Areva said that the findings and the conclusions of the UK Nuclear Regulators will enable its generation III+ evolutionary power reactor (EPR) to move forward in the the generic design assessment (GDA) process.
Areva and French electricity major EDF have jointly submitted the EPR GDA application in the UK. Additionally, 10 European utilities support the licensing of Areva’s reactor in the country.
A global EPR fleet is currently being developed by Areva. Its generation III+ reactor is under construction in Finland and France with preliminary works underway in China.
Areva has also submitted a licensing application in the US and recently bid for the construction of EPRs in South Africa.
