The 7E 3-series operate with GE’s Dry Low NOx combustion technology and is capable of achieving emissions and meeting stringent air quality standards, GE noted.
Montana-Dakota Utilities generation director Alan Welte stated that the company needed a reliable gas turbine to ensure it meets growing capacity needs.
"We are confident in GE technology and were looking for a gas turbine that is highly reliable and cost-effective," Welte added.
Operating on pipeline natural gas, the 7E 3-series that feature low emissions will generate 88MW when it begins commercial service in 2014.
GE Power & Water’s thermal products president and CEO Paul Browning said the 7E 3-series gas turbine offers starting reliability and comes to full speed in just 10 minutes.
"This allows the 7E 3-series to excel in peaking power applications, also making it an excellent fit for the quick addition of supplemental power to compensate for the intermittency of renewable energy," Browning added.
Regional energy supplier Montana-Dakota, a division of MDU Resources Group, provides retail natural gas and/or electric service to parts of Montana, North and South Dakota and Wyoming.
