Areva is set to double its annual uranium production over five years, from 6,000 metric tons in 2007, by mining around 10 new deposits across the world. This project will require an investment of over E3 billion, mainly in Africa.
The combined know-how of Technip and SGN will reportedly secure the development of Areva’s mining projects. The group notably intends to quicken the Imouraren and Trekkopie projects, located in Niger and Namibia, respectively.
SGN provides nuclear fuel cycle engineering services and is a key partner for Areva’s major nuclear projects in France and abroad, while Technip has experience in mining uranium.
