BHP Billiton stated that further inspection and assessment is underway to determine the appropriate course of action to mitigate the anomaly.

The Neptune tension leg platform, which is located approximately 120 miles off the Louisiana coastline, was scheduled to begin oil and natural gas production by the end of March 2008. The company is currently assessing all the options in order to re-commence start up activities.

BHP Billiton is the designated operator of the field with a 35% interest. Partners include Marathon Oil Company with 30%, Woodside Energy USA with 20% and Maxus US Exploration Company with a 15% stake.
