Grant for seismic and geological data acquisition, in parts of the block, categorized desert national park (DNP) had initially been subject to many preconditions.

Eni India was directed in 2008 not to go ahead with a proposed 3D seismic data programme in the DNP. However consequent studies executed by an environment ministry panel, gave grant for data acquisition. It may be recalled that Eni India is planned to surrender the area that falls DNP.

Eni India lately filed for an extension of the phase-I work programme in the Rajasthan block on account of excusable postponements. The appeal mainly stems from obstacles faced by the contractor in obtaining statutory clearances from the state government, which led to postponements in execution of the work programme. RJ-ONN-2003/1 is spread over an area of 1,335 square kilometers.

“The Rajasthan drilling programme was launched in the contract area last week; the first well is being spud in the block at the moment,” reliable company sources said.
