The company intends to begin the planning process by 2015 for the centre which will take ten years to be complete.
Areva said it would cost about $25bn to build a recycling center.
Areva North American unit head Jacques Besnainou suggested that part of the funding for the project could be secured from the US government’s Nuclear Waste Fund.
Besnainou said the recycling center is a better option when compared to interim storage sites, which are currently being considered by the US Blue Ribbon commission, reports Reuters.
