Kaunisvaara iron ore concentrator plant is located nearly 100 km north of the Arctic Circle, in Sweden.

ABB had secured the contract to supply electrification and automation system through Metso Minerals and Northland Resources in 2012.

The company in its statement said, "ABB delivered its first equipment only two months after contract awarding – production started merely seven months later on December 4, 2012."

The solutions provide Northland Resources with optimal operational conditions to reach highest production at lowest energy costs.

Commenting on the developments Northland president and CEO Karl-Axel Waplan has acknowledged its suppliers’ effort in achieving the target in a tight schedule.

"The close partnership with our contract partners has played a vital role in our success," added Waplan.

ABB facilitated nine containerized electrical rooms with embedded medium- and low-voltage switchgear, variable-speed drives and motor control centers, among others.

Meanwhile, Northland has outlined plans to produce 1.4 million dry metric tons (dmt) of high-grade iron ore concentrate during the year 2013 and 3 million dmt in the following year.

The miner expects to reach the production capacity of 4 million dmt per year by the third quarter of 2014.
