Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), has secured a contract from the South Gas Company of Iraq (SGC) to provide fast-track solutions for the recovery of flare gas at Nassiriya and Al Gharraf oilfields.

Under the agreement, signed in the presence of Iraqi Minister of Oil Jabbar Al-Luaibi, BHGE will deploy advanced modular gas processing (NGL) technology, developed in the US and Italy, to develop solutions for flare gas recovery at the two oilfields.
The company will use the modular skid-mounted gas processing technology to build a 200 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) NGL plant, which is expected to be completed by 2021.
A fully integrated natural gas liquid (NGL) plant will be developed at Nassiriya, which will recover 200 MMSCFD of dry gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and condensate.
The solution will provide power plants with dry gas for efficient power generation to help meet the growing demand for electricity using clean fuel. It will also reduce the amount of gas flared in the two fields that otherwise goes waste.
The advanced technology to be used in the plant will help produce more than 1,000 tons of LPG per day and recover more than 900m³ per day of condensates. This will be used to meet the domestic demand for cooking gas and the surplus LPG and condensate will be exported.
According to Iraq’s Minister of Oil, the project marks the entry of a new phase for the sector, and the optimal utilization of flare gas is a major milestone in the government’s efforts to drive a better future for Iraq.
