The Lake County Solid Waste Management District (LCSWMD), in searching for a sustainable use of solid waste, voted to authorize contract negotiations with Indiana Ethanol Power (IEP). The LCSWMD plans to review the final contract with IEP at its board meeting in May 2008.
The 1,500 ton per day facility, utilizing the GeneSyst process invented by James Titmas, is expected to produce 20 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol and other products each year.
IEP stated that it will work closely with local communities and environmental interest groups to select the facility site within Lake County. Construction is expected to begin in 2008 and should be completed within two years.
