Jindal Synfuels plans to establish a 80,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity CTL plant to produce clean diesel, naphtha and LPG.
Tata Steel in joint venture with South Africa based Sasol Synfuels will build a 3.6-million-ton per annum CTL plant.
Both the project will use the Clean Coal Technology process which comprises of three main sections namely coal gasification, Fischers-Tropsch synthesis and product up-gradation.
Jindal Synfuels CTL project president Dev Anand Tripathy said that the project’s emissions, effluents and solid wastes will be below the stipulated statutory limits as per stringent World Bank norms and Indian Pollution Control & Environment agencies.
The process waste water would be suitably treated ensuring zero liquid discharge and the CO2 capture/storage & sequestration will be directed to nearby underground geological formations & aquifers.
Jindal Synfuels will disclose the technology suitable for utilization of inferior grade (high Ash) Indian coal.
The Indian government has already allocated Ramchandi coal block in Talcher coal field, which has a potential reserve of around 1500 million tons of low grade coal, to set-up the proposed CTL project.
The plants are expected to be in operation by 2016, reports the Economic Times.
