The 389MW wind energy project, to be located 14 kms southwest of the Barrow-in-Furness coastline, is being developed by Dong and ScottishPower on a 50/50 basis.
Siemens will supply 108 turbines each with a generating capacity of 3.6MW and will also provide maintenance services for the turbines over a five-year period under a separate contract.
Work is expected to begin in early 2012 on the electrical connections, while the wind turbines will be installed in 2013.
The wind farm is expected to be fully completed in 2014 and will generate enough electricity to power approximately 300,000 British homes.
The operational base for the facility will be the Port of Barrow, which is also being used for the operation of several other wind energy projects in the East Irish Sea.
