The 12,000sq ft facility, located in Beaver Falls, will allow for improved coordination between the plant and state and local emergency management agencies.

The facility also will be used during quarterly training drills and bi-annual emergency exercises evaluated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The new emergency operations facility will remain operational until the construction is completed, which is expected to be in January 2012.

FENOC unit also operates the Davis-Besse nuclear power station in Oak Harbor, Ohio, and the Perry nuclear power plant in Perry, Ohio.
