US-based transmission-only utility, American Transmission Company (ATC), is seeking approval from the state regulators to reconstruct about 58 miles of transmission lines.

The company has proposed to rebuild 58 miles of 138kV transmission lines in parts of Jefferson, Dodge, Waukesha and Washington counties in the US state of Wisconsin, because the aging equipments are reaching the end of their useful life, reported madison.com.

ATC will use fiber optic wires for digital communication on 35 miles of the route. The new, replaced infrastructure is expected to improve the reliability of the electric transmission grid.

The company will have to get the approval from the Public Service Commisison and the state Department of Natural Resources to proceed with the project work.

Upon receiving approval, the company is expecting to begin the re-construction work in final quarter of 2014 and complete it in the second quarter of 2017.
