The company said the move is a key component of its ongoing efforts to reallocate resources into more profitable coal operations and Marcellus shale drilling activities.
Consol Energy had ceased production at the mine in the first quarter of 2009.
The company will re-assess the opportunities in the future to access the metallurgical reserves in the Mine 84 area.
Consol Energy anticipates that the closure will result in a pre-tax cash savings of approximately $18m annually.
