The natural gas-fired combined-cycle unit, which began commercial operation in June 2002, is now owned by KGen Power Corporation.
Entergy said the acquisition will boost its generation capacity and fit into its long-term strategic plan to provide for the long-term energy needs of its customers.
The acquisition of the power plant, located on an approximately 393-acre site, is subject to regulatory approvals.
Entergy Arkansas president and CEO Hugh McDonald said Hot Spring is a well-maintained, proven facility in Entergy’s service area, and it will provide the company with reliable, low-cost energy to serve the growing needs of its customers.
Entergy Arkansas, a subsidiary of US-based energy company Entergy Corporation, provides electricity to more than 697,000 customers in 63 counties.
