Consumers Energy will use the SDA systems, also known as dry scrubbers, to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from its Karn plant’s two 275MW coal-fired boilers.
Under the contract, B&W PGG will also supply a lime preparation system and two recycle ash systems for the power plant.
Engineering works are underway at the company’s Barberton, Ohio operations.
The first unit is scheduled for operation in May 2014, with the second unit to follow in 2014.
B&W PGG president and COO Richard Killion said the SDA system chosen by Consumers Energy will help them meet their emissions reduction targets in a reliable and efficient manner.
