GE will supply an 88MW LMS100PA aeroderivative gas turbine with about 43% energy-efficiency in the simple-cycle application.
The company will also supply a control building and emissions-control equipment that includes a selective catalytic reduction system for control of nitrogen oxides and a carbon monoxide reduction system.
The new turbine, which is expected to begin operation in May 2013, will serve about 50,000 customers in the Las Cruces (New Mexico) and El Paso (Texas) areas, GE said.
El Paso Electric provides power generation, transmission and distribution service to about 371,000 retail and wholesale customers in a 10,000 square mile area of the Rio Grande valley in west Texas and southern New Mexico.
