NGO Iklim karbon’s analyst Agus Sari said that the country needs enough information on carbon trade mechanism and should encourage people and investors to join in financing.
"Carbon trading is like any other business. People need to put in an amount of money and can get a
return a few years later," Sari said.
The government is required to clearly define carbon trade policies such as who held the right to trade carbon credits, like project developers or concession holders, to determine who would benefit from the trade mechanism.
In 2009, the Indonesian government has committed to a 26% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, and up to 41% reduction with international assistance, The Jakarta Post reported.
