Exmouth intersected 132ft of net gas pay during the drilling of Elfin-1 exploration discovery well in the upper Mungaroo sands.

Elfin-1 well is situated in the WA-268-P permit area about 170km northwest of Barrow Island. It was drilled in 3,570ft of water to a total depth of 11,909ft.

Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration and Production president Melody Meyer said the series of exploration discoveries in the Carnarvon
Basin is creating a strong gas portfolio for the company in Australia.

"The growth of this portfolio positions the company to supply future LNG demand in the Asia Pacific region," Meyer added.

Chevron Australia with 50% interest is the operator of the WA-268-P permit area, while Shell Development Australia and Mobil Australia Resources each own 25% interest in the permit.

The latest discovery is the 21st discovery that Chevron has made in offshore Western Australia since mid-2009.
