NetComm will collaborate with Ericsson to provide communications card equipment for the deployment of smart electricity meters in across the state of Victoria, Australia.

As per the Victorian government policy, old electricity metering technology will be replaced with new smart meters by the end of 2013, reported Financial Review.

Smart meters are expected to optimize power grid infrastructure and assist SP AusNet to note down details about energy usage in real-time and improve power generation and distribution while and reduce peak consumption.
