Under the EUR32m contract, the Spain-based technology company will build a 132km long transmission line and will also extend an existing substation.
The company will be responsible for the engineering, construction and commissioning of the transmission line and the extended substation.
Abengoa will build the transmission line from substation in Lessos, Kenya, to the substation in Tororo, Uganda.
The company will also design, construct and commission the extended Lessos substation.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months and delivered to Ketraco in November 2014.
The African Development Bank is financing the project, which is part of the Interconnection of Electric Grids of Nile Equatorial Lakes Countries plan.
Interconnection of Electric Grids of Nile Equatorial Lakes Countries plan is being developed in Africa and involves building of around 769km of transmission lines in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burundi.
